We’re delighted to introduce our Horse of the Month for October…the gorgeous Red! Red is a 28 year old Dartmoor pony who has been with her owner Libby since she was 6 years old!

Two years ago, Red got laminitis for the first time so her vet carried out a blood test which showed that she had Cushing’s disease. There are many factors which can affect whether a horse or pony develops laminitis, so it makes sense to control as many of them as possible to reduce the risk of horses and ponies developing this debilitating condition. Equine Cushing’s disease is one of the laminitis risk factors that you can control with medication, so Red has been prescribed a daily tablet to control her Cushing’s.

Since starting the medication Libby says that Red is looking ‘exceptionally well’ – we hope that she continues to stay happy and comfortable! Thanks for sharing her story with us Libby!
